Note: compression ratio depends on the file types. Text-heavy files usually compress well, while already-compressed formats (like many PDFs, JPEGs and MP4s) may only shrink slightly.

Why Compress Files in Your Browser?

Many online “file compression” tools require you to upload documents to a remote server. For anything sensitive – visa bundles, HR files, contracts, ID scans – that's not ideal.

With this DocClean utility, the entire compression step runs locally in your browser. You bundle files into a ZIP archive without exposing them to an external service.

Compress files without losing readability

Compression is ideal when you need to email a document, upload it to a portal, or reduce storage size. For sensitive documents, it’s usually best to redact first, export a clean copy, and then compress the redacted version.

Common reasons compression fails

Scans become blurry and text becomes hard to read
Over-compression removes detail from signatures or stamps
Very large PDFs can be slow depending on your device

If the output looks too soft, re-run with a gentler setting or start from a higher quality source.
